Morag Quilliam
I started painting during Covid lockdown when various online classes became available.
I immediately liked the speed of paint. The intensity of colour. The flexibility it allowed.
For over 30 years prior to this I had worked as a textile artist.
My work tends to be smaller in scale. I use acrylic paint on board which can be framed or unframed.
I rarely work to any sort of preparatory sketches, preferring to be guided by the paint which I apply at random. The shapes which appear are my inspiration and colours emerge from mixing and playing with what is on my palette.
I have found that bright and strong colours appeal to me especially and natural forms are a common theme. There is often a use of surface pattern which I am sure is linked to my years working in textile.
